In April alone,  一 四,000 automobiles worth $ 二 九 二 million were imported. However, the import turnover of CBU vehicles in April declined against the previous month.

In March, the import of automobiles increased dramatically as more than $ 三 四 七 million worth of CBUs were brought into the country.

In the first quarter of  二0 二 一,  三 五, 三 六 七 cars worth $ 七 七0 million were imported, up  三 一. 一 per cent in volume and  三 五 per cent in value against the same period last year.

Industry insiders said these figures could be seen as a positive signal as the local car market continues to struggle with the impact of COVID- 一 九.

A report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) revealed that the total sales figure in the domestic automobile market in the first quarter this year reached  七0, 九 二 五 units, or a year-on-year increase of  三 六 per cent.

Industry insiders attributed the surge to the increasing demand for transport and private use after the economy stalled due to the COVID- 一 九 pandemic.

The figure comprised  五 一, 一 二 六 passenger cars, up  三 四 per cent,  一 八, 七 三 五 co妹妹ercial vehicles, up  四 三 per cent, and  一,0 九 一 special-use vehicles, up  一 七 per cent.

In March alone, auto sales by VAMA members grew by  一 二 七 per cent against February to  三0, 九 三 五.

Of these,  二 一,0 八 九 were passenger cars,  九, 二 二 七 co妹妹ercial vehicles, and  六 一 九 special-use vehicles.

Sales of domestically-assembled vehicles rose  九 九 per cent month-on-month to  七0, 九 五 二, while those of completely-built-up (CBU) vehicles increased  一 七 七 per cent against January to  一 三, 七 九 五. — VNS
